Great way to learn and understand Spring - not for novices though
I've wanted to learn Spring for some time but the sheer number of Spring projects and modules covering everything from Aspects to Web sockets made it hard to know where to start.

This updated edition of Spring in Action covers the Framework and provides the structure, context and enough detail to get a handle on Spring and to actually start developing.

The first part of the book describes the various modules, what they do, and how they fit together - very helpful for me. Subsequent chapters then elaborate on key features such as Dependency Injection, Aspect-orientation, web programming, database access, security, testing etc. Using the book, I was able to build a small, production-quality web application (with a lot of re-reading of chapters!).

The number of subjects covered is very wide - see the table of contents - so by necessity the author had to make choices about what to omit. Everyone will have their own view, but I'd personally have liked to...
